The Department of German language and literature at the Faculty of Education focuses on the training of future German language teachers in public, private and language schools. In addition to the development of language skills, the study program of the German language and literature offers a complex education in foreign languages didactics, but includes also solid knowledge of the various linguistic disciplines and an overview of literary studies.
The department constantly develops internationalization activities - cooperation with the University of Vienna, University of Potsdam (EDUC), University of Regensburg, University of Freiburg, University of Budapest (literature seminars), TU Dresden (Erasmus projects - soft skills, multilingualism, etc.).
The research focus can be divided into three fields:
A) Linguistics: corpus research, language acquisition, contrastive grammar, valence research,
B) Didactics - second language acquisition, multilingualism in schools, German after English,
C) Literature: German-Bohemian and Moravian literature, reception of German literature, multimedia and transmediality, ideology / nationalism / conspiracy theories in literature.
